Garlic Olive Oil Steak Marinade
Fezziwig's Garlic Olive Oil is pressed from hand-picked Arbequina olives, which gives it a mild, buttery base that carries the garlic without turning bitter over a hot pan. It is the shortcut ingredient in this steak marinade.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup Fezziwig's Garlic Olive Oil
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 steaks (ribeye, strip, or sirloin, about 8 oz each)
Instructions
- Whisk together the Garlic Olive Oil, Worcestershire sauce, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish.
- Add the steaks and turn to coat completely.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 8 hours for a deeper flavor.
- Remove the steaks from the marinade 30 minutes before cooking to come to room temperature.
- Sear in a hot cast-iron skillet or on a grill for 3 to 5 minutes per side, until the desired doneness is reached.
- Rest the steaks for 5 minutes before slicing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long should steak marinate in olive oil?
Two to eight hours is the ideal window. Garlic Olive Oil is mild enough that it will not break down the meat's texture even at the longer end of that range.
Can this marinade be used on other cuts of meat?
Yes. It works equally well on pork chops, lamb chops, and thick-cut chicken breasts. Reduce the marinating time to 1 to 2 hours for chicken.
Can this marinade be used on a plant-based steak alternative?
Yes. The oil, Worcestershire sauce, and herb blend work well on portobello mushroom caps or a store-bought plant-based steak, though marinating time can be shortened to 30 minutes since there is no dense muscle fiber to season through.
